Hemi Overview

Hemi is a Bitcoin-secured smart-contract L2 designed to make BTC fully programmable without wrapping, custodians, or synthetic representations. It extends Bitcoin with an Ethereum-compatible execution layer, allowing developers to build modern DeFi and on-chain applications that read and interact with native Bitcoin state.

Hemi’s architecture merges Bitcoin finality with EVM flexibility through the Hemi Virtual Machine (hVM), which embeds a full Bitcoin node inside an Ethereum-style environment. This lets applications verify Bitcoin data directly on-chain while executing programmable logic with the speed and usability of an L2.

Settlement security is strengthened via Proof-of-Proof (PoP), a consensus mechanism that anchors Hemi’s state to Bitcoin to preserve immutability and minimise reorg risk.

What Hemi Enables

Native Bitcoin in smart contracts. Apps can interact with real BTC (not wrapped assets), enabling lending, DEXs, liquidity pools, yield products, and programmable payments secured by Bitcoin.

• Cross-chain portability: Assets can move through Hemi “Tunnels,” allowing BTC and EVM assets to flow into a unified environment for trading, DeFi, and settlement.

• A unified Bitcoin–Ethereum supernetwork: Developers can build Ethereum-style apps that access Bitcoin’s liquidity and security, creating new cross-chain primitives without trust-heavy bridges.

• High-security, programmable BTC experiences: With Bitcoin-level finality and an EVM programming model, Hemi enables wallets, DeFi apps, infrastructure providers, and protocols to integrate BTC as a first-class programmable asset.
