LI.FI Acquires Catalyst To Accelerate The Future Of Intents

Philipp Zentner

TLDR: LI.FI is acquiring Catalyst, an intents protocol that is purpose-built for resource locks and works across any virtual machine. By bringing Catalyst’s team and technology into LI.FI, we can support intent-based execution via solvers. Builders get access to deeper liquidity, better price execution, faster onboarding to new chains and the ability to build chain abstracted experiences.

At LI.FI, our fundamental thesis is that DeFi will eat TradFi. The future of finance will be onchain, with trillions of dollars in value moving across thousands of execution environments, from general-purpose blockchains to highly specialized ones. But for that future to happen, something critical needs to be built: a liquidity marketplace that scales across all chains.

Every day, we talk to builders. They all want the same thing: access to liquidity and users across every chain. Our job is to make that possible. We are building infrastructure that scales with crypto’s growth — solving the deepest liquidity problems, at scale, across chains, without friction.

With that in mind, we’re pleased to announce that LI.FI has acquired Catalyst, an intents protocol that works across any virtual machine and taps into an open marketplace of solvers for order execution.

Founded by Jim Chang and Alexander Lindgren, Catalyst is designed to be the best bridge for altVMs, powered by intents — built on the principles of permissionlessness, trust minimization, and modularity. These principles align closely with LI.FI’s core values of aggregation and credible neutrality.

Why Does This Matter?

With thousands of chains emerging and liquidity getting fragmented across them, simple aggregation starts to get challenging. More integrations, more maintenance, more third-party dependencies. It doesn’t scale.

Catalyst allows us to combine the best of aggregation with an intents-driven approach. The team is world class and brings deep expertise in interoperability. Their work with intents and resource locks will help us scale faster, work across any VM, and deliver an even better experience for our partners and users.

The crypto ecosystem is heading toward a future of thousands of chains. If we want to keep up, we need solutions that don’t just scale linearly, but leverage new innovations to scale exponentially. That’s what Catalyst helps us do.

This is how we go from aggregation to something much bigger.
