Introducing Smart Execution with LI.FI
Just like anyone who spent a few years working in the crypto industry, I’ve had to go through a fair amount of user experience struggles when it comes to comes to interacting with blockchains and decentralized applications; browser extensions, signatures, lost keys, gas management, chain configurations, nonce management, slippage settings, approvals, contract upgrades… These are still the reality of many.
While promises of bringing crypto to the billions (which I also naively believed) through account abstraction and other UX-focused initiatives were made, today in crypto, a gap still exists between the UX of centralized web2 like technologies and decentralized systems. Besides the current market dynamics and the exhaustion of many to carry the flame, we at LI.FI are continuing our effort to bring UX on par with traditional financial systems while harnessing the benefits of the onchain economy.
Every swap has two moments: the quote your user sees, and the transaction that actually settles onchain. A lot of what can go wrong lives in the gap between them.
A quote can look perfect and still revert when it hits the chain. A slippage setting that protects one token quietly overpays on another. And even when the route is sound, the flow itself — connect, approve, sign, sign again — loses users before they ever reach settlement. Today, the user pays for all of it: gas on failed transactions, value given away to bad fills, or simply abandoning the swap. And companies pay right after, in support tickets and churn.
Aggregation solved coverage — any token, any chain, one API. Today we aim to solve reliability with Smart Execution.
What Smart Execution is
Smart Execution is a set of execution-quality features that sit between the quote and settlement, each one removing a specific failure mode in that journey. They're live today, enabled for all integrators, and documented at docs.li.fi/enterprise/overview.
Quote Simulation — kills "the quote was a lie"
Before a same-chain route is returned, LI.FI replays the exact transaction the user would send against current onchain state. Routes that would revert — including overly optimistic DEX quotes — are filtered out before your users ever see them. Nothing to configure, no extra step in your flow: the observable effect is simply that quotes which we predict would fail on-chain don't show up.
This isn't a debugging tool you point at a transaction after the fact. It's a quality gate running on every eligible route, continuously scoring the venues behind them. The gate earns its keep: in live operation, execution success rates across trading venues span from below 60% to 100% — a spread no static allow-list can track. Simulation catches this per route, per moment, and it's fast enough that you never notice it: ~35ms added on average, under half a second at p99.
Smart Slippage — kills "the settings were wrong"
One flat slippage value can't fit every token. Too tight and volatile tokens revert; too loose and stable pairs give away value to sandwich bots. Smart Slippage replaces the flat number with a per-token tolerance computed from live market data, returned as a recommendedSlippage field on every eligible route. When a route touches multiple tokens, the most volatile one sets the bound. And a slippage value you set yourself always wins.
The result: volatile and long-tail tokens stop reverting on bounds that were never made for them, and stable pairs stop giving away value that a tighter bound would have kept — with no MEV exposure traded away to get there.
Smart Deposit Addresses — kills "the process was too hard"
The one crypto interaction with true mass-market adoption is sending tokens to an address. Smart Deposit Addresses bring that to any onchain action: LI.FI derives a unique deposit address for the trade, the user (or exchange, or custodian) makes a single plain transfer, and LI.FI executes the transaction and delivers the output to the recipient. No wallet connection, no approval, no router transaction to sign. If the trade can't complete, funds are returned.
Smart Deposit Addresses support multi-step swap, bridge, and deposit flows thanks to Composer, the onchain execution engine and transaction orchestration tool developed by LIFI.
The data layer underneath
Execution quality is only as good as the data feeding it, so we rebuilt that too. The pricing pipeline behind every LI.FI quote now refreshes volatile tokens every 30–60 seconds instead of every 5 minutes — roughly 5× fresher — and streams near-real-time prices (~1 second) for top traded tokens. The system detects hot tokens automatically from live trading activity and re-prices every token within seconds of its schedule.
Fresher prices mean tighter quotes, less slippage exposure in fast markets, and fewer bad fills exactly when trading peaks.
One story, not three features
Each pillar removes a failure mode at a different point in the same journey:
Pre-trade — Simulation: a quote you can trust.
At-trade — Smart Slippage: parameters you don't touch.
Around-trade — Smart Deposit Addresses: a flow anyone can complete.
Put together, onchain actions powered by LI.FI start to behave like payments: send, receive, done. No settings, no signatures, no surprises. That's the bar Smart Execution is built against — and the test for anything we add to it next.
Getting access
Smart Execution features are now available to all integrators.
